International Roaming Biennial of Tehran, curated and organized by Amirali Ghasemi and Serhat Koksal,chose Istanbul as its first station .The idea of this independent, low-budget exhibition started out both as a critique of the situation in Tehran, and of the international "biennialization" and '' gentrification '' process .

Featured works by artists from different countries from all around the world, selected from an open submission call, which has had an overwhelming response.Berlin is it's 2nd station ,Belgrade is it's 3th station .

Urban Jealousy Roaming Biennial of Tehran interview / Bant Magazine MAY 2008

Serhat Köksal and Amirali Ghasemi, two artists being frustrated about globalised, institutional (and therefore), shallow Biennials have decided to launch their own roaming, indipendent biennial named “Biennial Tehran”. First stop will be Karaköy Hafriyat in Istanbul, with contribution of various artists from all around the world, between May 30- 06 July. We asked them, about the name “Biennial Tehran”despite the different Biennial location, Karaköy-Istanbul and about the motives behind the concept “Urban Jealousy”.

How did everything start, what was the initial Idea and how did you meet Amirali?
S.K. – I first visited Tehran 12 years ago. Afterwards I made the musical score for a documentary named “Tehran 1380” which had been shown on Iran and some European TV channels. I already knew some people from the Tehran art scene. I first met Amirali about 3 years ago. Before that we had heard about eachother until he came to Istanbul for an exhibiton where I first saw his posters and stickers, which I thought was somehow similar to my works. In 2006 he invited met o his exhibition “Deeper depressions” which I contributed with a video. The year after, he invited me again for another Project which was related with Tehran and Berlin. I joined thisevent with an audio-visual performance called “NO Goethe, NO Hafız NO Bridge NO Biennial”. Since that time, the idea of a collaboration was brewing in our heads. He gave me some works of Iranian artists. They were very successful but I did not have the aim to exhibit any works of modern new Iranian artists anywhere. Indeed, I did not want this to happen because that Idea reminded me of previously organized European exhibitons with inadequate concepts of Istanbul, with Turkish artists as contributors.
We tried to define a concept about our common problems in order to start a collaboration. One day, when I was in Tehran I heard some ıranian artists, sitting next to me and chatting. One of them said “Maybe we should feel lucky that we do not have an International Biennial” and everybody laughed at this joke. At that very moment it flashed in my mind and said to Amirali: ” I found it! Our topic will be a Tehran Biennial and the first stage will be in Istanbul under the name Biennial Tehran”. Further, I found the concept “Jealousy”. Amirali finished it by adding “urban” and wrote a very nice article about the exhibiton. We planned no limitation of contributions from Iranian artists only. Because good works do not have a nationality.

The concept of this Exhibiton is defined as “Urban Jealouise”. What were the reasons of focusing on it?
S.K. - Actually the concept was titled in English, however, the word “Jealousy” has another meaning in French which is window shade. We identified this “jealouise” with the situation of Iranian artists as described in Amirali’s presentation article: “ A jalousie is some kind of a shade; through which you have a view to the outside, but you can’t see anything inside when you look from the outside.”

Another mission of this exhibiton is to stay dissident against these global&corporate biennials which, somehow restrict themselves and their contributing artists. What would you say about this perspective?

S.K. – For a pretty long time, I’ve been performing in many countries about the relation between Global Energy pipelines and the compelling “Cultural Dialogue” attempts, the involvement of global capitalism in building bridges, branding cities and major art events. And naturally it is normal that these events which are voluntarily participating, tend to be more sterile and the same. Since beginnig of the millenium, I have been performing some Works with partially humorous content about this “Curators Hegemony” and Biennialism. I even wrote some articles about this subject for some magazines. So yes; one of the major questions we are asking is, “Why are these Biennials are organized onyl by Ministries of Culture, big Art Foundations and modern Holding companies?”. Another purpose is to question the status differences in the Art scene. Do people with limited skills not have the right to launch a Biennial? But the main purpose will be the attitude of the contributors and the places to be exhibited.

Amirali, you are a co-founder of the independent Art Gallery “Parkingallery” in Tehran. We intend to talk to you about this in details in future issues, until then, could you introduce Parkingallery in in a few words?

A.G. – Parkingallery has been esatablished in 1998 as an independent design sudio, Project event and art gallery. In 2002, we launched our online gallery and until today, we have been organizing exhibitons, panels and events. We also are in contact with various rock groups. Our main ambition is to concentrate on new medias, designs and photography and support young and promising artists by these exhibitons.

Frankly speaking, we do not have any idea about the Iranian Art scene. Of course, one major reason is this sheet of fear spred over us by the Western World. Can you talk about this briefly?

A.G. – The Tehran Art scene consists of different Island, actually. And they are not communicating with eachother, so much. It looks as if they were in some kind of competition. Metaphorically, we consider ourselves some kind of a boat! There are some internationally known young Iranian artists; however, unfortunately most of them are creating Works according to the demands of the market: either cheap and shallow political art-work or lush, exotic shit…

And indeed; the propaganda machine is working regular as usual, and blocks any information unless it is based on a political topic or against any typical persona. Means, despite that we have received applications even from countries which I had never heard of, we do not expect any miracle or any change with this Biennial. This Bieannial is more about travel, speaking, reshaping estates, exploring new frontiers and curiosity. The concepts or aims of corporate Biennials are too”old”, “slow” and “serious” to desire and gain. We only borrowed the format of a Biennial and chose moving instead of stuck in one geographical territory.

There was a sentence in one of the answers which had not been published in Bant Magazine:

S.K. – For example, last year 3 different opening ceremonies have been held in Istanbul Biennial. At the first one, very close persons froma very tight circle of the Sponsor company had been invited. The second one was for the VIP and the third was for the general public. If necessary, we can organize 4 opening ceremonies for our Biennial. But we have decided only for one. In the evening there will be a party which is called “Gözel Geceler” with VJs and DJs .

Hammock's Mono no Aware

I just watched the music video for Hammock's "Mono no Aware" from their album "Maybe They Will Sing for Us Tomorrow". This music video is amazing! Totally it's a great work of art. The soul-touching song with beautiful frozen landscapes and misty fields and abandoned places made this music video something really special! This music video is directed by David Altobelli.

Review : About Elly

"About Elly", the latest Asghar Farhadi's movie is something different for today's Iranian movie. In "About Elly" Farhadi is at his best. After directing "Chaharshanbe-soori" (his another amazing movie) and having some amazing works such as writing a screenplay for his wife's "Dayereh-e zangi" and Mani Haghighi's "Canaan", he returned with "Darbareye Elly", not a different movie, but his best!

"About Elly" is not just a drama movie. It's a great psychological thriller. It's a great journey throuth the layers of human's morality. The bitterness of movie's story and that shocking ending never leave you, hours after when you finished the movie. All actors/actresses actings are phenomenal. They are all at their best. Specially Peiman Moaadi (as Peyman) at his debut movie as an actor, is so brilliant. "About Elly" has no soundtrack but ambient sounds and the great usage of sea tides sounds. Movie recieved so many positive reviews along with some negative ones. This movie won 4 Major awards and 1 nomination.

With this movie, Asghar Farhadi fixed his position as one of the best Iranian directors of all time. also "About Elly" is one of (if not the best) Iranian best movie to date. Farhadi and his brand new movie brought a new breath, and started a new wave of filmmaking in Iranian's film industry.

rate: 9.5/10

P.S.: look to the sea through the movie carefully. after one hour it becomes such a nightmare to look and stand by the sea!

MJ:13:13

5 days after Michael Jackson's tragic death (I thought why I didn't mentioned something on my blog about it :-?), me and my friend Fouad Amiri decided to run a memorial service for Michael. We decided to run it as a virtual party. So after 3 days of working hard on this idea, MJ:13:13 virtual memorial party launched for all Michael's fans all around the world.

Beside "The Ghost" photography project, I'm designing a poster as a side-project dedicated to "Christine Chubbuck" a reporter who committed suicide during a live TV program. This poster is based on some figure drawings I did for this one combined with some vector elements, typographies and hand-made textures.

Something About Ghosts!

Here are so many Ideas I'm thinking about and so many projects currently I'm doing, but one of most recently and the most important projects is an experimental photography project entitled "The Ghost" (just a working title). And it's all about the time when you stuck all alone in a dark room with some hallucinated/paranormal visions, When you feel there is a thing or another person in the room. Your hallucinations come alive and then...boom! You have a ghost by your side!

And the photos will tell you the story of this visit!
The first session of shooting photo is done and I'll have some more sessions to complete my set.

Variations Énigmatiques

I started to read a new play this morning, and I finished it some mintues ago. That play was Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt's "Enigma Variations (Variations Énigmatiques)". This play is written in 1996. A breathtakingly masterpiece by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt. Once again this play has just characters, two men, who talk about their lives and their beloveds.

Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt describes the summary himself:

"Who do we love when we love ? Do we ever know who the beloved one is ? Is mutual affection but a happy and lucky misunderstanding ?

Love is a mystery and the very reason why, on the stage, one man faces. On one side, Abel Znorko, a Nobel Prize of literature who lives far from men and civilization. On his island lost in the middle of the Norwegian sea, he keeps on remenbering the woman he loved passionately and with whom he corresponded for a long time. On the other : Erik Larsen, a journalist who wants to interview the writer.

But the interview is only a pretext. So what is Larsen's secret motive ? What is the link between him and this woman Znorko claims he has never forgotten ? And most of all, why has the misanthropist agreed to meet him ?

Mesmerizing storytelling of Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt will surprise you once again. With no doubt this play will be in your mind for weeks and will make you think deeply about the story. If you didn't have the chance to read this play, This is my recommendation for your forthcoming holidays.

Human Emotion Project 2009

“Human Emotion captured through international collaboration using sound, video and film to portray the individual interpretation of the artists involved. Participating artists works will be available for large screen projection and screening on DVD (PAL and NTSC) or format required; from Alison Williams (Director HEP project).”
A final series of HEP DVDs will screen the selected works according to the flow of emotions projected.

A deadline is set for 31 January 2009 and a growing number of artists answer a call to document or articulate human emotion through kinetic media. The project is born online and the first screenings will be viewable to the public via an online source yet to be officially announced.

Drawn together by the art that they share via the internet, artists with disparate cultural and aesthetic identities approach the internal workings that exist in all humans. Emotions are inherently difficult to explicate. How does one describe fear? We know it when we feel it but how can we share, through the paltry use of language, our experience of it? Moving images, mostly embellished with sound, extend the expressive possibilities beyond what can be accomplished through language or even static imagery. By employing the largest palette of creative possibilities, film and video artists from around the world strive to externalize those complex driving forces that we all enjoy and endure and that bind us, as humanity, together despite our differences.

Alison Williams, a prolific South African artist who has created collaborative work with artists across the globe, and whose own work fearlessly mines a broad range of emotional experiences, initiated the project. The project was born online, an art web site and artist networking site to which all of the artists involved belong. Democratically organized, individual artists are seeking real world venues in their home countries for a work that, even a few years ago, would have been a logistic impossibility. Thus far, many members of the group have submitted preview video works which will be included in the final selection process - 31 January 2009 (final submission date). The selection process will ensure adherence to the conceptual nature of the project for final screening at various International Film and Video festivals and participating galleries etc.

HEP 2009 is currently working to secure venues via curators, galleries, museums and individuals interested in involvement with such an exciting project. The aim of the project is to target many locations internationally and also to let the project grow, adding to the content and adjusting the curatorial so as to present and reflect the new artists that join the project over time. This ensures new material for screening and the availability of a broader selection of HEP DVDs.

Other emotions not listed on the site are also open to interpretation according to the various participating artists, as the above were merely guidelines for the project.

Duration of works was not set, to allow the artists a broad and free interpretation without too many imposing restrictions, and to cultivate the possibility of greater creativity within difficult emotional terrain. The final selection process irons out any problems imposed by time. More than one DVD will be presented to ensure that artists are represented as individuals with their own distinct interpretations within the group. Each artist has the option of handing in three works for submission.

These emotional and fascinating works could be screened in sessions or as the Festival/ Gallery schedule/ individual curatorial permits. HEP 1 HEP 2 HEP 3 etc depending on the number of selected works and the duration of the entire project after the selection process. Both online and offline screening is offered according to individual requirements.

Human Emotion Project is a non-profit project / event: Works will be screened at Festivals on a non-profit basis and for cultural purposes only, not for profit gain by the Director of HEP group or by any other screening parties involved (curators, galleries, museums or private showings arranged by consent only). Participating to HEP will in no way limit the rights that the Artist has on his/her work/s: Artist will retain the ownership of his/her work/s and all the rights upon his/her work/s without any limitations including but not limited to all the rights of using, selling, hiring, showing his/her work/s in any other event (be this profit or non-profit), before or during or after the HEP Project etc at his/her total discretion.

NB. Artists retain the ownership of their works and all the rights upon their works without any limitations.(all artists must hand in one submission form per work submitted, signed)

If in the future any sale of the works is proposed by any Gallery, Collector, screening venue or individual, then the HEP group as a whole will determine that outcome after consensus is achieved. A decision that suits all parties involved re pricing and sales would be determined.

"Le Spectateur condamné à mort" is the latest play by Matéi Visniec. Not as good as "L'Histoire des ours Panda racontés par un saxophoniste qui a une petite amie à Francfort" but still a good absurd play. Matéi Visniec became my favorite writer with this interesting, stunning play. this play is about a spectator who is doomed to execution because of some undisclosed, unknown crimes.

this play is taken from the series of books entitled "All Around the World : Plays" published by Ney pub and translated by Tinouche Nazmjou. book covers are all designed by Farhad Fozouni.

As I Lay Dying's latest album "An Ocean Between Us" is their most successful album to date. 12 songs of pure Metalcore sounds (and a little bit Melodic Death Metal scents in it), heavy guitar workings of Nick Hipa and Phil Sgrosso are awesome in this album and as always vocals and drums are so uinque. band welcomed Josh Gilbert as a new bass player, who replaced by Clint Norris.

AILD released their very single for this record, "Within Destruction" as a digital single, downloadable through their record lable, Metalblade. and then they released the 2nd single "Nothing Left" and then "The Sound of Truth". Brian Thompson was the director for both of the music videos of those singles. music videos of "Nothing Left" and "the Sound of Truth" are based on a single story that ends in "Nothing Left" and continued to "The Sound of Truth". if you want to know more about the story of the music videos check their web pages at Wikipedia.

But here is something that I want to tell you about the music videos. Brian Thompson, as a director, did his job so well. he used a very simple story (with a simple surprise ending) but he made such a great atmosphere and some stunning dark images with this simple story. so many hardcore / metalcore fans were starring in these two music videos as a follower of the dictator, screaming and yelling, seems ready to do some heavy moshing and hardcore dancing ! the powerful wave of raging is one of the biggest points in these music videos. Both of these music videos remind you of the great masterpiece "The Battleship Potemkin" by "Sergei Eisenstein" (or the silent russian movies like it). Music plays through the videos but it seems you can't hear any sounds from the music videos and you're just watching a silent movie.

"Nothing Left" and "the Sound Of Truth" are enhanced with so much computer generated scenes, but still it didn't hurt the face of the music videos. I remember the beautiful scenes, just like when that infected girl works in a small dark workroom, or when she is stripped her cloths and stands in front of those raging followers (in Nothing Left) and the beautiful final sequence when the old dictator is arrested and confesses in front of the raging people and that big flames fire (in The Sound Of truth).

Costume designing, make-ups, acting and directing are so amazing through these two videos and of course AILD's performance is so powerful as always (but the drummer Jordan Mancino didn't do his amazing windmill headbanging, what he did in their previous music videos!! ;) ).

Finally, on June 10, Jakob Dylan of the mighty "The Wallflowers" (and son of the legendary Bob Dylan) released his debut solo album entitled "Seeing Things". It's a folk album. "Seeing Things" is produced by Rick Rubin, and released by Columbia Records. This album has 10 tracks, length 37:55.

Radiohead Wants Your Animated Video

Animation Network Aniboom and Radiohead’s US label, TBD Records, have launched a contest inviting all creators and Radiohead fans from across the globe to produce an animated music video for any one of the songs from the band’s latest album, In Rainbows.

The contest, to be separated into four stages, will culminate with the selection by the members of Radiohead of a winner who will be awarded a $10,000 prize to produce a full-length animated music video. Aniboom’s contest will be announced on television for the first time tonight on Adult Swim, Cartoon Network’s programming block for young adults, and will be promoted on Adult Swim and on MySpace, where fans will be able to vote for their favorite video.

The first stage of the competition begins today and continues through April 27, inviting all artists, animators, writers, character designers and more, to submit storyboards that may range from basic sketches with words to more complex submissions in video formats, using the song of their choice from In Rainbows. Artists have the option to compete solo or to ask Aniboom to match them with other entrants whose talents complement their own. More information on the contest can be found at Aniboom.com.

The storyboards will be posted for viewing and ranking by creators and fans, after which a panel that will include people from Aniboom, TBD Records and Adult Swim will select ten semifinalists who will be awarded $1,000 each to produce a one-minute animated music video. (نگاهی به نمایشگاه تصویرسازی های ایلیا تهمتنی)

وقتی قدم بر گالری مان هنر نو گذاشتم؛ تمامی پیش زمینه های هر آنچه که از نمایشگاه ایلیا تهمتنی و هر آنچه که تا حدی به آن می اندیشیدم از بین رفت. ورودی گالری، جوانی با لباسی سر و پا مشکی؛ خشک و بی روح، با سردی دلخراشی دستم را کشید تا مرا به سوی آنچه در حال رخ دادن بود، راهنمایی کند. همه جا سرد بود؛ گالری مان هنر نو خلوت، هیچ بنی بشری نبود. دیدن چنین فضایی از جایی که هیچ وقت خالی از آدم نبود شوک مرا برانگیخت. از آن راهروهای خلوت و خلوتگاههای گاه خاموش گالری، به همراه آن مرد مشکی پوش گذر می کردم. او چند قدم جلوتر از من؛ همچنان با همان سردی دلخراشش حرکت می کرد و من به دنبال او می رفتم. آن قدر از آن پیچ و خمها گذر کردیم تا این که کم کم صدای ضعیف تلاوت قرآن از دور به گوش رسید. من هرچه سعی می کردم با هر چه می بینم ارتباط پیدا کنم نمی توانستم. هر چه به جلو می رفتم گامهایم سست تر می شد. مرد سیاه پوش مرا بسوی پایین پله ها راهنمایی می کرد و من پله های بلند گالری را با تشویش بسیار پایین می رفتم. آنجا چیزی بود که از بالاتر و قبلا از این که هر حدسی بتوانم بزنم مرا آزار می داد. فکری بود که مرا کرخت می کرد. جسمیتی از یک نیستی بود که خود را نمایش می داد. پاهای جسدی را می دیدم که از زیر ترمه بیرون آمده بود. آنجا؛ آن گوشه، آن گوشه دنج، آن گوشه خالی از نور و زندگی؛ چیزی، جسمی آرمیده بود و من از کنار آن گوشه دنج چه بسیار کرخت و بی اراده گذر کردم.0

بوی کافور می آمد. تمامی فضا را بوی پارافین شمع ها پر کرده بود و بوی مرگ نیز. همه چیز غرق سکوت بود، غرق سکوتی بس سهمگین. همه گویی بغضی گلویشان را می فشرد. گویی همه حنجره هایشان را بیرون جا گذاشته بودند. صدای قرآن می آمد و ضدای ضرباهنگی ضعیف.0

- آرش برات خرما بیارم؟ حلوا چطور؟

گوشم کر شده بود، انگار هیچ نمی شنیدم. یا اگر می شنیدم توانایی درک آن را نداشتم . فقط به دنبال یک جواب بودم. جواب سوالی که پرسیدنش برایم بس دشوار بود.0

- ایلیا چش شده؟ کجاست الان؟
- مرده دیگه...! اوناهاش !0

در عرقم غوطه ور شده بودم. برگشتم و بسوی آن گوشه تاریک و دنج حرکت کردم. پاهایم تاب و توان راه رفتن را از دست داده بود. اما من فقط برای گرفتن جواب سوالم به رفتن بسوی آن جنازه اصرار کردم. به بالای سر جنازه که رسیدم دیگر می دانستم که این ایلیاست که در اینجا آرمیده است، آرام. نفسم بند آمده بود. می خواستم ضجه بزنم و از درون چیزی را که مدتها بود فریاد نکرده بودم را بر زبان بیاورم. اما گویی من نیز مرده بودم. فقط لحظه ای سکوت کردم و بی حرکت به او خیره ماندم. قفسه سینه اش بالا و پایین می رفت. صدای هس هس نفس کشیدنش را زیر ترمه می شنیدم. به سرعت گوشم را به کنار صورتش بردم. او زنده بود و نفس می کشید. حرفی نداشتم تا بگویم. سرم را بلند کردم و به آن سو رفتم. جایی که تابلوهای ایلیا؛ تصویرسازیهایی که او طی یکسال اخیر تصویر کرده بود، در کنار شمع های بلند سوزان و قابهایی که ربان مشکی بر بالایشان بود جا گرفته بودند. در کنار هر تابلو کارد و چنگالی بود؛ برای تکه تکه کردن و بلعیدن هر تکه از آنها. آنجا لیستی بود بلند از کسانی که ایلیا با مرحوم مغفور و مرحوم مغفوره نامیدن آنها؛ چهره هایشان را تصویر کرده بود. از محمد صالح علا تا کیکاووس یاکیده و یار علی پور مقدم و توکا نیستانی تا نزدیک ترین دوستانش در آن لیست بودند. نام من هم به چشم می خورد.0

آن روز هر کسی که در آن جمع بود؛ مرحوم مغفور یا مرحوم مغفوره ای بود که جهت خوشامدگویی به یار دیرینه شان در آنجا گرد هم جمع شده بودند. اما تمام چیزهایی که بود؛ نه از مرگ بود، نه از نیستی. افسوسی بود بر هر آنچه که از دست داده ایم. افسوس بر هر آنچه خوبی بود و اکنون مدتهاست از کف داده ایم. بر تمامی آن دوران خوشی که همه در کنار هم از همه چیز و همه جا می گفتیم و می خندیدیم و حتی گاه باهم می گریستیم.0

ایلیا آن روز کفن پوشید و بر رویش ترمه انداختند؛ تا با تمامی آن چیزهایی که سراسر زندگی اش را پر از نکبت و خواری کرده بود خداحافظی کند. او آن روز ساعتها کفن پوش؛ زیر ترمه؛ بر روی آن میز فلزی بلند، نقش مرده را بازی کرد؛ آن زیر آرام آرام گریست و خود را دوباره متولد کرد. او آن روز متولد شدنش را در درونش؛ در ذهنش؛ در جایی که خود می دانست کجاست و ما حسش کردیم جشن گرفت. او می گفت که به چنین حرکتی احتیاج داشته است و او تنها راه جدایی از آن دوره پر فراز و نشیب و آفت زده را بازی با مرگ می دانست. مردن در میان نفس کشیدن دیگران. مردن در میان حیرت و گیجی ما. مردن در کنار هر آنچه که برایش آورنده خیر و شر بود.0

نمایشگاه "پژ" با تشییع تابلوهای تصویرسازی ایلیا تهمتنی؛ از مسجد الرضا واقع در خیابان نیلوفر آغاز شد. مراسم سوم و هفتم از 14 تا 18 مهر در گالری مان هنر نو برگزار شد. مراسم یادمانی نیز از 14 تا 19 مهر در گالری میرمیران واقع در خانه هنرمندان ایران بر پا گشت. کتابی هم به زودی از انتشارات نظر بر گرفته از فضای همین نمایشگاه روانه کتابفروشی ها خواهد شد.0

ایلیا آن روز در انتهای نمایشگاهش از بستر مرگ برخاست، و آرام متنی که گاه در حین تلاوت قرآن از کلام خودش ضبط شده بود؛ پخش میشد را دوباره خواند. وقتی از او خداحافظی می کردم تنها چیزی که از چشمانش خواندم زندگی جدیدی بود که او بعد از مرگش مشتاقانه در جستجوی آن بود.0

"Helvetica NOW" Winners

بالاخره نتایج نهایی رقابت پوسترها برای فستیوال پوستر "هلوتیکا" اعلام شد و کار من البته در میان 30 اثر برتر قرار نگرفت ولی هیئت داوران پوسترم رو در میان فهرست 11 اثر تقدیر شده در فستیوال؛ بعد 30 پوستر برتر اعلام کرد. این فستیوال به مناسبت 50 سالگی فونت "هلوتیکا" در شهر هامبورگ کشور آلمان برگزار شد و حدود 1500 پوستر از سراسر دنیا به دبیرخانه سایت "لاینوتایپ" که برگزارکننده این فستیوال بود فرستاده شد. از ایران هم "امین شاهد، علی افسرپور ، ساناز حسینی ، حسن درویش ، رامین رئوفی ، گلناز پاکدل ، محمد هادی ولی پور، سعید میرباقری ، شاداب دادگر ، ندا ظرف ساز ، محسنی شاد ، محمد اعتمادی ، فهیمه کریمی ، آرش خسرونژاد" در این مسابقه شرکت داشتند.0

وانس یک فیلم معمولی نیست. بهتره بگم که "وانس" یک اتفاق ساده ولی حیرت انگیز بود. فیلم تو جشنواره فیلم کن 2007 شرکت می کنه و تحسین همگان رو بر می انگیزه. و این اتفاق نه فقط در کن بلکه در فستیوال ساندنس و شیکاگو و جشنواره های بسیار دیگه هم می افته. و چرا این اتفاق می افته یک جواب ساده داره. چون "وانس" یه اتفاق ساده ولی حیرت انگیزه. فیلم داستان جوانی رو با بازی "گلن هنسارد" به تصویر می کشه که در یک مغازه تعمیرات جاروبرقی کار میکنه و در مواقعی از روز هم کنار خیابون گیتار می نوازه. شبی در حین نواختن گیتار با دختری مهاجر با بازی مارکتا ایرگلوا که از چک به ایرلند اومده آشنا میشه و این آشنایی تبدیل به جمعی میشه که همگی برای ضبط یک آلبوم موسیقی سخت تلاش می کنن. جان کارنی در دومین حضور جدیش به عنوان یک فیلمساز گامهاش رو محکم برمیداره و در مقام کارگردان و نویسنده، موضوعی رو برای فیلمش انتخاب می کنه که خودش سالها اون رو به صورت حرفه ای دنبال کرده. موسیقی. جان کارنی موسیقی رو با نواختن بیس آغاز کرد و با گلن هنسارد در گروه "د فریمز" می نواخت. گلن هنسارد که در فیلم نقش جوان گیتاریست رو بازی می کنه، گیتاریست و خواننده و بطور کلی رهبر گروه "د فریمز" هست. جان طی سال 91 تا 93 مسئولیت نواختن بیس رو در گروه به عهده می گیره، و بعد از دو سال همکاری از گروه جدا میشه تا فیلمسازی رو دنبال کنه. البته او بعدها ساخت موزیک ویدئوهای گروه رو به عهده می گیره. او طی سالهای 96 تا 2003 چند فیلم کوتاه؛ چند قسمت از یک سریال تلویزیونی و یک فیلم بلند با بازی "سیلین مورفی" می سازه و تلاش او برای ساخت دومین فیلم بلندش؛ در سال 2006 نتیجه میده و"وانس" اثری بی نظیر و درخور توجه از آب در میاد.0

فیلم از داستان پیچیده ای پیروی نمی کنه. چون اصلا پیچیدگی ای در شخصیتها نیست که باعث بشه در بیان داستان تاثیر بذاره. و این بیان کردن راحت داستان به راحت تر شناختن شخصیتها کمک می کنه. دیالوگهای فیلم از ساده ترین حرفهای روزمره انسانها شکل گرفته ولی در عین حال این دیالوگها هستن که شخصیتها رو به ما معرفی می کنن. شخصیتهایی که با حرفهاشون حتی گذشته هاشون رو برای ما تعریف می کنن. اما در "وانس" گاهی دیالوگها جاشون رو به اشعاری که برای آهنگها نوشته شده میدن. یک امتیاز مثبتی که بسیار "هوشمندانه" و "به اندازه" در فیلم استفاده شده. با توجه به قالب بودن موسیقی در موضوع فیلم این مساله پیش بینی میشه که صحنه های نواختن موسیقی جاهایی از فضای فیلم رو تبدیل به یک موزیک ویدئو کنه اما حقیقتا این مساله کاملا به طرز استادانه ای مهار میشه و باعث میشه تا صحنه های نواختن موسیقی و یا حتی صحنه هایی که موسیقی روی صحنه ها پخش میشه کاملا در خدمت فیلم باشه.0

از مهمترین ویژگیهای فیلم، حضور افراد غیر حرفه ای به عنوان بازیگر فیلم هستش. آدمهایی که نقش بازی می کنن (مثل گلن هنسارد و مارکتا ایرگلوا) اما حقیقتا خودشون موزیسین هستن و یا کسانی که نقش یک گروه خیابانی رو بازی می کنن (که حقیقتا نقش واقعی خودشون رو ایفا می کنن) و یا مهندس صدایی که گروه رو تو ضبط آلبومشون همراهی می کنه در نقش خودش ظاهر میشه و همین حضور بازیگران غیر حرفه ای به ساده بودن ساختار روایی فیلم کمک می کنه. البته این نکته رو باید اضافه کنم که این نابازیگران نقشهاشون رو به طرز ماهرانه ای بازی می کنن و درگیر جو دوربین و فیلمسازی قرار نمیشن. فیلم از فیلم برداری روی دست بهره می بره. ویژگی قابل ستایش فیلم که به ساده کردن صحنه ها، شخصیتها و داستان کمک بزرگی می کنه. فیلم برداری روی دست در این فیلم بزرگترین دلیل نزدیکی شما به فیلم هستش. چرا که این مساله باعث میشه تا شما در تمام صحنه ها به عنوان یک فرد ناظر به وقایع حضور داشته باشین. وقتی فیلم، فیلم ساده ای که مبتنی بر شکل گیری روابط انسانها باهم هستش باشه، مطمئن باشید که با ترفند دوربین روی دست خودتون رو تو تمام موقعیتهای فیلم احساس می کنین.0

بد نیست به این موضوع اشاره کنم که فیلم خالی از ایراد نیست. نورپردازی ها، افتادن سایه فیلمبردار روی زمین و نگاه کردن به دوربین در یکی دو صحنه از اشکالات این فیلمه اما جدا از یک مورد آخر شاید بحث نورپردازی فیلم از همون نکاتی باشه که جان کارنی سعی کرده با کمتر پرداختن به اون، فضای فیلم رو تو موقعیتهای حسی حقیقی تری قرار بده. فیلم در بسیاری از صحنه ها از نور طبیعی محیط بهره می بره و از نورهای پروژکتوری و موضعی بسیار کم استفاده شده

"وانس" در بسیاری از محافل سینمایی دنیا نقدهای مثبتی رو دریافت کرده؛ برنده و نامزد جوایز بسیاری شده و حتی در فهرست بهترین فیلمهای سال 2007 قرار گرفته. "وانس" فیلمیست که باید دید. به خاطر جسارت جان کارنی در استفاده از داستانی چنین ساده و پرداخت منحصر به فردش و تبدیل اون به یک اثری که تا مدتها در ذهن شما بمونه. فیلم قصد گفتن هیچ حرف بزرگی رو نداره. راحت و سبکبال بیننده رو به اوج لذت از دیدن یک اثر عاشقانه هدایت می کنه.0

I was traveling, "Without my own vehicle", through Turkey, Iran and Pakistan with Varanasi (Benares), India as my final destination.

I used to live in New York, and in seven years the only things I ever heard about Iran were news fragments describing the cruelty of the Islamic Republic. You never heard the whole story, just how a journalist was put into prison, or some Mullah had ordered a adulterer to be stoned to death, or how they hanged two young men because they were caught having sex. All these are true but they do not describe the culture of Iran. Instead they generate fear and mistrust and augment a false sense of self righteousness held by the west. They are part of a well orchestrated propaganda.

In the two and a half months that I spent in Iran in 2005, I came to admire and love their culture, and although I could see several negative traits as well, they seemed less significant compared to the positive. Either because I was a visitor and was given special treatment or, because I had lived in New York pre and post 9/11, to me, even the negative in Iran appeared wonderful compared to the western equivalent. The people seemed more kind and civilized, more refined in their manners, less vulgar and neurotic. Happier I thought, although all my Iranian friends complain all the time about how sad they are and how difficult life is (which is true). To me, the people in Iran are not even close to the extreme degree of inhumanity and despair that we have reached in the west.

Art in Tehran, where I stayed longer, surprised me as well, since it was not just copies of western art; instead the works that I saw, offered different views on similar subjects that contemporary artists deal with. I went back this summer and did some research in order to organize an exhibition here in Athens with art from Tehran. During my stay I put together a collection of videos for Into the Pill. I find they represent different approaches, that when seen together comprise an adequate effort to show a fraction of the complexity and variety of contemporary video art, by artists who live and work in Tehran.

قطار 3:10 دقیقه به یوما شاید بهترین فیلمی بود که میشد تو این چند ماه اخیر دید. داستان فیلم حول شخصیتی به نام دن ایوانز با بازی کریستین بیل که کشاورزی ورشکسته و گرفتار بدهی و یک راهزن یاغی به نام بین وید با بازی راسل کرو می چرخد.داستان نه خیلی روان (و نه خیلی سخت فیلم) با بازیهای درخشان کرو و بیل و همچنین گرچن مول در نقش همسر و لوگان لرمن در نقش پسر دن ایوانز می درخشد. کارگردان فیلم جیمز منگولد بعد از دو فیلم موفق هویت و روی خط راه برو بازگشت خود را به سینما با موفقیت 3:10 دقیقه به یوما جشن می گیرد. فیلم بازسازی یک فیلم قدیمی به همین نام است که در سال 1957 با بازی گلن فورد و ون هفلین به روی پرده سینماها رفت. در نگاه به جزییات فیلم؛ صحنه های به یاد ماندنی زیادی وجود داره که تو یک نگاه کلی فیلم رو تبدیل به یک شاهکار سینمایی می کنه. از صحنه مکالمه دن با طلبکارش تا تقسیم کردن پولها در کافه توسط دارودسته بن وید و یا اون نیم ساعت طوفانی پایانی؛ موسیقی متن بی نظیر فیلم که مارکو بلترمی ساخته و حقیقتا بیننده رو به یاد موسیقی متنهای به یادموندنی انیو موریکونه میندازه؛ طراحی لباس و گریمهای عالی و همچنین لوکیشنها و دکورها؛ همه و همه فیلم رو از یک اثری که می تونست بیننده رو فقط سرگرم کنه به یک فیلم نه فقط عالی بلکه اثری که مخاطبش رو هیجان زده کنه و به فکر فرو ببره تبدیل می کنه.0

در نقدهایی که خوندم یا شنیدم بودند کسانی که معتقدند کارگردانی جیمز منگولد و هدایت گروهش بعد از فیلم قوی و تاثیرگذار روی خط راه برو چند گام به عقب رفته و او تواناییش رو تو هدایت گروه فیلمسازیش تا حدی از دست داده اون هم به خاطر کارگردانی چند اپیزود از سریالهای تلویزیونی و دور بودن نسبی او از سینما. به نظر من تو این فیلم کاملا برعکس این قضیه اتفاق افتاده. این فیلم نه یک پروژه معمولی و امتحانی ساده بلکه وارد شدن به منطقه قرمز سینماست. سینمای وسترن سینمای سختی ست. من یک وسترن باز حرفه ای نیستم و به همین دلیل توانایی در کنکاش این ژانر رو ندارم اما سینمای وسترن سینمایی نیست که بشه راحت واردش شد. سینمایی نیست که بشه راحت در موردش فیلم ساخت و قهرمان یا ضد قهرمان ساخت. ضد قهرمانهای وسترن گاه خود قهرمان هستند. چیزی که در 3:10 دقیقه به یوما دقیقا اتفاق میافته.0

شما فیلمهای ماندگار وسترن رو به یاد بیارین. خوب بد زشت؛ روزی روزگاری در غرب؛ به خاطر یک مشت دلار؛ به خاطر چند دلار بیشتر که بلااستثنا همگی ساخته سرجیو لئونه هستن یا هفت دلاور ساخته جان استورگز که فکر نکنم از یاد کسی رفته باشه. 3:10 دقیقه به یوما از دید من تو رده فیلمهای برتر تاریخ وسترن قرار می گیره. وسترن (شاید) مدرنی که بعد از نابخشوده ساخته کلینت ایستوود یادآور عصر طلایی این ژانر باشه. فیلم؛ فیلم روان و بی ادعاییست؛ گرچه شخصیتها و داستانهای حول زندگی آنها سخت و گاه پیچیده هستند. به هر حال 3:10 دقیقه به بوما فیلمی ست که باید دید. نه فقط به خاطر بازی ستارگانی چون کریستین بیل یا راسل کرو که حتی گاه بازی غیر ستارگانی مثل لوگان لرمن و گرچن مول به کارآمد بودن بازی ستارگان کمک کرده؛ بلکه به خاطر ساختار قوی و مستحکم داستان؛ دیالوگها و کارگردانی هوشیارانه جیمز منگولد که تمامی عوامل سازنده را درست در مسیر ساختن یک وسترن به یادماندنی هدایت کرده است

New York minutes: In with the New Museum

The city's latest home for cutting-edge exhibitions is a luminous work of art in itself

There's a real buzz in the air in New York on the subject of new building. Think the New York Times' proud new headquarters on Eighth Avenue, or the Frank Gehry IAC building. The latest addition to the rapidly growing list of exciting new architecture is a cultural double whammy - not only is the building compelling, but it houses one of the most cutting-edge art museums in the world, the New Museum of Contemporary Art.

Lovers of the New Museum will welcome return of the gallery, following a two-year period of homelessness while the new site was under construction. Those who don't know it should add it to the must-see list on their next trip to New York, as a sign that even in its corporate and somewhat bland modern form, this city is still full of cultural delights and surprises.

First, the new building. It sits bang in the middle of the Bowery - a daring location in itself in a street that is traditionally associated with Skid Alley. (This said, many people forget that the Bowery has long been connected with artists - its alumni include Mark Rothko and William S. Burroughs.)

On a grey day, like the one I went to visit, the New Museum is barely visible as it rises up from the Bowery, white and ghostlike. Its Tokyo-based architects, Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa, have clad the building in silver wire meshing, inspired apparently by the New York trash cans. This adds a sense of mystery, and obscures the contents of the various floors, which are stacked on top of each other like a tower of children's bricks. The scale is petite, but imposing - someone dubbed it the world's tallest small building.

It's the only museum ever built from the ground up in downtown New York, and the first chance the city has had to purpose-build a gallery since the Whitney in the 60s. So what have the curators done with their $64 million new toy? They've gone for what you might call revolutionary simplicity. Founded in 1977, the New Museum, as the name suggests, has always prided itself on being ahead of the game - it was big in political art around the issue of Aids in the 1980s, for instance. The curators clearly wanted it to be of its time, which for them meant a rejection of the gigantism and slickness that had come before.

There are three main galleries, each a plain, white-walled space lit by neon lighting and the skylights that have been created by the off-centre stacking of the bricks. For the first month the museum is being kept relatively minimalist and bare, to allow the architecture to sing out as an artwork in itself. The opening show, Unmonumental, brings together sculpture by 30 artists from around the world, all created after 2000. There is work by the Glaswegian Jim Lambie, including his evocative Bed-Head, a matress completely covered in coloured buttons; Rachel Harrison's the Huffy Howler, a cheap bike sporting handbags and a print of Mel Gibson; and a piece by Sarah Lucas called Fuck Destiny.

Over the coming weeks the display will gradually get more busy, with the addition of paintings and sound and an internet spin-off.

The quality of the exhibits may be a little patchy, but there's a real sense of excitement to the museum, and the feeling of a sharp team of curators luxuriating in their fabulous new home. Go see it.

The new album may represent the strongest collection of songs the band has assembled for a decade.

Before it had even arrived in the world's inboxes, you would be hard-pushed to call Radiohead's seventh album anything other than a triumph, at least of marketing. The honesty box approach meant In Rainbows was discussed in areas not usually noted for their interest in leftfield gloom-rock. It turned up in a broadsheet's economics section, while one can only begin to imagine Thom Yorke's untrammelled joy at the piece by an advertising executive, which claimed the singer's paralysed left eye was "the perfect analogy" for Radiohead's expertise in branding.

Elsewhere, the band's creative partner, artist Stanley Donwood rattled the collecting tin a bit, pointing out the album's lengthy, agonized gestation, which at one point entailed fraught discussions about splitting up. This is hardly an extraordinary state of affairs - no Radiohead album really feels complete without an agonized and fraught gestation, in much the same way that no R&B album feels complete without an interminable thank you list in which God features heavily but, on listening to In Rainbows, it seems surprising.

This does not sound like a band clutching their brows and wondering what to do next. The lyrics may be as neurotic as ever you're never that far from an infrastructure collapsing or the lights going out or being eaten by the worms - but as it flows seamlessly along it sounds supremely confident, like a band who know they're at the height of their powers. There's nothing tentative even about its more experimental moments, possibly because even its more experimental moments - 15 Step's clattering beats, the unsettling electronic pulse behind House Of Cards - are pressed into the service of fantastic melodies: the closing Videotape proceeds at the pace of a Soviet state funeral, but the tune is so glorious, it sounds graceful rather than lethargic, dreamy rather than dreary. Radiohead sound like they're enjoying themselves, not least on Bodysnatchers, which features a geefully propulsive bass riff. In the parlance of the middle American sports stadium crowds with whom Radiohead have such a troubled relationship, it rocks.

The most heartening thing about In Rainbows, besides the fact that it may represent the strongest collection of songs Radiohead have assembled for a decade, is that it ventures into new emotional territories: their last album, 2003's Hail to the Thief, had its moments, but it was scarred by the sense that the band's famed gloominess was starting to tip into self-parody and petulance. Here, there's wit - at 15 Step's conclusion, Yorke's patented end-is-nigh keening is undercut by a childrens' chorus merrily crying "hey!" - and warmth. With its strings and swooning guitars, Nude sounds lushly romantic. So does All I Need, which, moreover, ends in a fantastic, life-affirming crescendo. Witty, romantic, life-affirming: you don't need to be an expert in the minutae of their back catalogue to know that these are not adjectives readily associated with Radiohead. But then, in the years since OK Computer propelled them to superstardom, you could say the same about the phrase "consistent album", yet that's precisely what In Rainbows seems to be. Whatever you paid, it's hard to imagine feeling short-changed.

NEVER BEEN TO TEHRAN, organized by artist Jon Rubin and curator Andrea Grover, is a worldwide exhibition with 29 international participants who will be contributing photographs of what they imagine the city of Tehran to look like, to a universal photo-sharing website. The photographs will be streamed to each exhibition venue as a continuously evolving slideshow, with more photographs being uploaded daily throughout the exhibition. The participants will use a variety of research methods to imagine the culture, landscape, and people of Tehran, using only their primary city of residence as the location of their photographs.

Exhibition Description Imagine a city that you've only seen in reproductions or perhaps have merely heard about. A place, like many others, that only exists for you through indirect sources--the nightly news, hearsay, literature, magazines, movies, and the Internet. Using these secondhand clues as firsthand research materials, invited worldwide participants--who have Never Been to Tehran--will take photographs (from their home base) of what they imagine Tehran to look like. Contributors will upload their photos daily to an on-line photosharing site, which will be projected as a slideshow simultaneously in galleries and public spaces around the world (including Tehran). Anything that anyone might take a photograph of is fair game, just as long as it feels like Tehran.

For the international contributors to this exhibition, the task is to search through their daily lives for clues to a foreign place, for the possibility that somewhere else exists right under their noses and that, like some clunky form of astral projection, one can travel to other lands without leaving home. New information technologies are expanding the possibility of knowing a place to which you've never traveled. Hosts of amateur and commercial websites and podcasts about a given city, its economy, demographics, culture and subculture have opened the way for a new vernacular of representation.

As Tehran's image is regularly depicted in the dominant media, it is a compelling challenge for the participants in this exhibition to sift through the glut of images and information to cull out a personally constructed version of an unfamiliar place. For viewers in Tehran, the exhibition presents a chance to witness an unusual mirroring of their globally projected image, taken from the daily lives and environs of outsiders. Collectively, the artists and viewers of Never Been to Tehran will be charting a liminal space stuck somewhere between here and there that in our contemporary existence just might be home.

The cause of death was not immediately disclosed. Woody Allen once called him "probably the greatest film artist, all things considered, since the invention of the motion picture camera." In its obituary, the New York Times took note of the fact that critics regarded Bergman as "one of the directors -- the others being Federico Fellini and Akira Kurosawa -- who dominated the world of serious film making in the second half of the 20th century."

Just one day after the announcement of the death of Ingmar Bergman, officials in Rome announced the death at age 94 of another legendary director, Michelangelo Antonioni. "With Antonioni dies not only one of the greatest directors but also a master of modernity," Walter Veltroni, the mayor of Rome, said in the announcement. Antonioni directed both Italian- and English-language features, including the 1960 classic L'Avventura and the 1966 Oscar-nominated Blowup. Despite being largely incapacitated by a stroke in 1983, he continued directing films. In 1994, barely able to speak and appearing frail, he directed John Malkovich, Jeremy Irons, Irene Jacob and Fanny Ardant in Beyond the Clouds, often using a note pad to communicate with the cast and crew. In 1995, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awarded him an Oscar for lifetime achievement.

I will never forget the Bergman's masterpieces "The Seventh Seal", "Wild Strawberries"& "Persona" and Antonioni's "Blow-Up". Brad Bird and his new animation Ratatouille blasted USA in the first week. it gained the most postivie critics and it entered the IMdB Top 250 Movies chart and it ranked in #32 with only 8700 votes. it really makes me wonder ! how much this animation is good ? i remember i was shocked when i watched "The Incredibles". but this time Brad Bird brings us something more intresting and amazing. this animation is the story of a rat who wishes to become a chef ! i didn't watch this movie yet but the only thing i know is Brad Bird is dedicated himself to the world of children. he still creats some different stuffs. i still remember his masterpiece The Iron Giant. Brad Bird looks to another Academy Award, the award that he deserves.

As strongly rumored for some time, Metallica have officially been confirmed to perform at this year's Live Earth concert in London at Wembley Stadium on July 7th along with The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys, Foo Fighters, Snow Patrol, Madonna, Genesis and many others. Live Earth is a world wide event featuring artists from all over the world performing at nine different shows on seven continents to help bring awareness to current global warming concerns and raise money for the Alliance for Climate Protection and other international non-governmental agencies. Metallica's performance is not part of the 2007 "Sick Of The Studio" tour and will consist of a shortened setlist and will be available to buy on iTunes and LiveMetallica.com. All money raised will benefit four climate charities hand-selected by the band: Sierra Club, The Apollo Alliance, WWF and Rainforest Action Network.

In the official press release Lars had this to say:
"I love my sons. I want them to "inherit the Earth" FOR REAL! Background of Conflict In Darfur
Wikipedia describes the Darfur Conflict briefly with the following words:
The Darfur crisis is a conflict in the Darfur region of western Sudan. The two main military sides is the Sudanese Military and the Janjaweed militia, recruited mostly from tribes of the northern Rizeigat. The other side comprises a variety of rebel groups, notably the Sudan Liberation Movement and the Justice and Equality Movement, recruited primarily from the Fur, Zaghawa, and Massaleit ethnic groups. The Sudanese government, while publicly denying that it supports the Janjaweed, has provided money and assistance to the militia and has participated in joint attacks targeting the land-tilling tribes from which the Darfuri rebels draw support. The conflict began in February 2003. Unlike in the Second Sudanese Civil War, which was fought between the primarily Muslim north and Christian and Animist south, almost all of the combatants and victims in Darfur are Muslim.

The government and Janjaweed attacks upon the non-Baggara civilian populace has resulted in a major humanitarian crisis. There are many casualty estimates, most concurring on a range within the hundreds of thousands. The United Nations (UN) estimates that the conflict has left as many as 450,000 dead from violence and disease.[3] Most NGOs (non-governmental organizations) use 200,000 to over 400,000, a figure from the Coalition for International Justice that has since been cited by the UN. Sudan's government claims that 9,000 people have been killed, however this figure is seen as counterfactual.As many as 2.5 million are thought to have been displaced as of October 2006. The Sudanese government has succeeded in suppressing information by jailing and murdering witnesses starting in 2004 and tampering with evidence such as disturbing mass graves and by doing so eliminating their forensic value.In addition, by obstructing and arresting journalists, the Sudanese government has been able to obscure much of what has gone on.The mass media once described the conflict as both "ethnic cleansing" and "genocide," and now do so without hesitation. The United States government has described it as genocide, although the UN has declined to do so. (See List of declarations of genocide in Darfur) In March 2007 the U.N. mission accused Sudan's government of orchestrating and taking part in "gross violations" in Darfur and called for urgent international action to protect civilians there.

After fighting worsened in July and August 2006, on August 31, 2006, the United Nations Security Council approved Resolution 1706 which called for a new 17,300-troop UN peacekeeping force to supplant or supplement a poorly funded, ill-equipped 7,000-troop African Union Mission in Sudan peacekeeping force. Sudan strongly objected to the resolution and said that it would see the UN forces in the region as foreign invaders. The next day, the Sudanese military launched a major offensive in the region. I know there are so many people out there who thinks the zombie movies are out of value to watch but i'm sure this movie isn't from those kind of movies. it makes you fear and laugh. the brightest thing in this movie is the performance of Simon Pegg. it is awesome.

after all Shaun Of The Dead is the most brilliant zombie movie ever made in the history of this genre. the movie you'll never forget.

After four years of no new songs, no new album, finally one of my All-Time favorite music band "Travis" released their new album "The Boy With No Name". members of Travis were at a long break through these years but still they had some performances like "Live 8" that held in 2005. for me Travis is a band who has a long history of music culture. a band with a wide open spirit of music who teaches the "NEW" bands. emotional, beautiful, superb & intelligent pieces stand in the visions of the four members of Travis, their visions to music & life. i was sure that Travis didn't spent their most of times in vacation. and i was sure that they wil return with something new and they will surprise their fans. "The Boy With No Name" came out on 7 May 2007 in UK and 8 May 2007 in US. the lead single "Closer" was released on 23 April 2007.

The sound of this album has some changes. all the instruments are the same as they used intheir previous albums but in the first listening to this album you'll find something changed in their music atmosphere. Fran Healy's voice has no dynamic parts in so many levels in songs. but still has the feeling you heared in his old songs such as "Sing" or "Love Will Come Through". as always Orchestral parts are included in so many parts of the songs and and you can hear them in the beautiful "Closer" and the Unforgetable "My Eyes". this album is so dynamic. from Britpop to Rock & Roll Themes, from downtempo / emotional songs to pure Rock feeling are all included in the theme of this album, the most important thing they had through these years in their songs. but ! all tracks of "The Boy With No Name" come from a similar atmosphere and workmanship. Travis has no fear to experience the levels of music.

"The Boy With No Name" is an album that you will never forget that. since their "Invisible Band" album on 2001, i think this is their first music experience with the most successful points in the music, lyrics and band personality. "The Boy With No Name" shows Travis in their highest attitude. this album recieved so many positive reviews from the critics. with "The Boy With No Name" Travis enters to a new dimension of their music realm and they take their fans to their newest world of music.

at the end i should tell you about my one of my friend who said : "Fran Healy had no lyrics to put in the chorus of "My Eyes" and because of it he sings Yeah Yeah Yeah !." i had no answer to him. some days after he called me and say : "hey boy ! "My Eyes" is awesome. it's the most beautiful song i've heared through these days ! the chorus of the this song blows my mind !"

The Architect And His Exhibition

Last night I recieved an invitation to an exhibition that held in Atashzad Art Gallery. the exhibition of Mr. Rahim Vaezi, the father of my close friend Shirin, who is an architect / engineer and he is a painter too. when i arrived to the gallery i was shocked because i had wrong idea. i thought that it was an exhibition about archtiecture or something. i knew he is an architect but truly i had wrong ideas about that exhibition. i thought maybe he wanted to show some modern / artistic architectural plans but when i arrived and watched his artworks i found an answer, "hey boy you thought wrong !" more than 30 watercolor images were on the white walls of Atashzad Gallery and all of those beautiful artworks were showing the clean, bland spirit of an architect who wanted to find some silent places, serenity and everything's beauty that we can't find in this city of smoke and pain ! i'm not a fan of watercolor but when i watched that artworks i found something really beautiful that i (or maybe all of us) have lost them. yes this is the beauty & bland world that Mr. Rahim Vaezi tries to imagine.

The Legendary "Garage Rock / Blues Rock / Indie Rock !" band from Detroit, Michigan, The White Stripes finally released the first single from their upcoming album "Icky Thump". the self-titled single from the album "Icky Thump" released in April 26 2007 in US and finally released through iTunes in some days ago.

the first thing i said when i heard the song was "WoW !" or "What Da F**K ?" or something. hell yes, The White Stripes returns with a masterpiece / beautiful single. the sound is still in the vein of The White Stripes style and still shows their unique style of music. grungy, fuzzy guitar sounds with the screamy voice of Jack White. drums sound reminds you the drums parts of the song "Seven Army Nation". you can hear so many Organ solos through this 4':17'' song. the Organ solos that remind you the 60's 70's bands and it remind me some The Animals old stuffs. the lyrics of this song is available in their official homepage. Jack White produced this song. this single has three versions. White Vinyle 7", Standard 7" and CD single.

Nachtwey : The Messenger

"Every minute i was there, i wanted to flee. i did not want to see this. would i cut and run, or would i deal with the responsibility of being there with a camera ?"

i remember that i had 12 or 13 years old and my father bought my 1st photo magazine. that issue of photo magazine contained the best photos of 1992-1993. i remember i saw a photo that impressed me too much and that photo showed the figure of a mother who lifted up her baby's body that enshrouded. the photo was taken from Somalia's famine in 1992. the photographer's name was James Nachtwey. many years after that i knew more about him and his artworks.

today's afternoon i watched the oscar nominated documentary movie called "War Photographer". a film by Christian Frei. a documentary movie about James Nachtwey's life & photos. wow ! i don't know what i should say. this movie makes you dumb. all the scences come and go and make you speechless. you see everything from an artist. a true artist. a real human. with real feelings that may no one of us know them. you watch this movie from two cameras. which one from our view to James Nachtwey and the second camera from James' view to the subjects. second camera installed on James' photocamera. i don't want to talk more about this movie and James Nachtwey (because i know all of you know more about him than me) and i prefer that you watch this movie and judge it by yourself. this movie is a masterpiece. a unique one. a movie about everything that the one & only James Nachtwey watches by his camera.
